Can I try Orthokeratology instead of Lasik?
We often get asked about these two options as they are both solutions to not needing to wear glasses or contacts anymore. This is especially true for those playing sports or participating in activities where wearing glasses or contact lenses can be bothersome. Lasik is certainly the easier solution and a quicker fix. However, many patients are a bit scared to have surgery. Lasik can also be expensive and usually not covered by insurance. These are common concerns.
Ortho-K is often half the cost of Lasik. Many times, patients who have had Lasik complain of blurry vision, dry eyes, and will even need to wear bifocals later in life. This is why we consider Ortho-K a great alternative to Lasik. Granted, Ortho-K does require putting in special lenses every night. It is thus important to give us a visit so we can discuss the pros and cons of each option.
